• From the viewpoint of the PMBOK® communication can be classified by multiple pairs of polarity:

  • verbal versus nonverbal
  • written versus oral
  • listening versus speaking

  • formal versus informal
  • vertical versus horizontal

Information Distribution is the process for "[...] making needed information avalaible to project stakeholders in a timely manner" (comp. PMBOK3, p. 221): it includes "implementing the communications management plan" and "responding to unexpected requests for information" (comp. PMBOK3, p. 228)

PMBOK Mentioned Methods

  • Communications skills - as also normally used management skills - concern multiple aspects:
    • to ensure "[...] that the right person gets the right information at the rigth time"
    • to accept that "[...] sender is responsible for making the information clear and complete so that the receiver can receive it correctly, and for confirming that it is properly understood" (feedback)
    • to accept that "[...] reciever is responsible for making sure that the information is recieved in its entirety an understood correctly"
  • Information gathering and retrieval systems are methods to generate or find information
  • Information distribution methods are methods to distribute messages, either formal or informal, written or spoken
  • Lessons learned process is the method to collect informations which could be usable for other projects and entities
